About Me

Who is Steven?

Steven Ellis is a Canadian multimedia journalist from outside Toronto, Ontario. He has worked on various different projects among multiple forms of media, including television, radio, magazine production and writing and editing.

Steven began his hockey career with his own website, TheHockeyHouse.net, a publication with over a million unique visitors and thousands of articles. There, Steven maintained a large team of writers and helped the site expand, adding a television show among three networks, a mobile app and a partnership with Fox Sports.

During his time with two hockey teams, the North York Rangers and the Oakville Blades, Steven was in charge of not only portraying the respective clubs in a positive light on social media, but attracting fans to the games themselves. As a result, Oakville had the best average attendance of any team in the Ontario Junior A Hockey League during his five-year tenure with the club.  Steven was tasked with coming up with fresh and creative ideas to achieve such results, thus showing that he can not only help create engaging and interesting content but build a brand at the same time.

Through the Canadian Press, Steven showed that he can be an effective editor while working with major publications. Being a strong editor allows him to get the most out of written work, especially when a few extra edits can be the difference between converting sales and missing the mark altogether.

While many of his peers restricted their journalism experiences to the classroom or other school publications, Steven made an effort to make a name for myself and get experiences you can’t get from just sitting in a classroom. As a result, Steven has covered events like the World Cup of Hockey, two World Junior Hockey Championships and the entire 2017 NASCAR Pintys Series season.

Instead of limiting himself to just the writing side of the industry, Steven has created material in various other forms. He has hosted television shows on three networks, including segments prior to Toronto Maple Leafs home games on their official channel, LeafsTV, back when he was in high school. Steven also appears on various radio stations each month, create online feature videos and have hosted and has produced two podcasts. Steven is always eager to learn and develop new ideas and skills, allowing him to adapt to any changes the industry throws my way.

During his time with 6ix, Steven showcased his ability to work with various different organizations in different fields. One minute, he would be writing about how to use cloud-based software for content marketing, and the next, he’d be focusing on how to achieve financial success with crowdfunding projects. While Steven was unfamiliar with many of the topics that he wrote about to start, he proved that he can put in the work to research topics to help readers and the business elite alike on any given topic.

Personality wise, Steven is very self-motivated and will do what it takes to get to a big stage professionally. He is always curious to learn more about topics he covers and the media industry in general, and he hopes to be able to teach and help others that want to grow in journalism themselves.
